Stella McCartney - Redesign 2

The Ask:

I was tasked by my London Fashion Professor at University of Westminster to redesign an existing garment sold by the Stella McCartney brand, except this time to find a new twist on its design while still maintaining its sustainable core. I chose the iconic Falabella bag, giving it a braided leather over for unique texture.

Skills & Process

Skills I needed for this project were similarly tech based, using adobe illustrator and inserting my own custom patterns. However I needed to blend creativity equally with technicality. The Falabella bag has an iconic look - one wrong line, and it could easily look off. Therefore, the process was a bit sticky, mainly because I knew the importance of having my design live up to the brand’s image. I needed to meet with my tutor multiple times for critiques to ensure everything ran smoothly, especially as the software wouldn’t read my inputs at times.

Key Takeaways

This project challenged me to not only get a hang on the software, but to think outside the box on redesigning a classic. I was able to improve my digital skills, while meshing creativity with identity, which is important to any brand.
